LPS Coral Food

I have developed over the last few years this powdered dry food to target feed sun corals and any LPS corals which benefit from a little extra food. Endless tweaking has finally resulted in a final mixture with which I am extremely happy using on the coral farm and getting excellentåÊresults from all of the corals and other resident fauna in the system evident in growth rates and colour. As a dry powder this is easily stored and has a much extended shelf life compared to many liquid feeds available.

A blend of highly digestible premium ‰ÛÏoff the shelf‰۝ dried fish/shrimp meal and plankton based coral foods with a few of my own added ingredients to provide a huge range of essential fatty acids and amino acids which can target all species within the aquarium at once. Most notably of these are two different biopolymers which are in themselves a food source and can also be used to control the consistency of this feed by adjusting the amount of water you mix this with. This gives you options ranging from a broadcast feed with particle sizes to suit any and all life in the aquarium right down to a thick gel which can be target fed directly to coral polyps using a syringe and minimal wastage into the water column.
This blend contains wide variety of freeze dried natural planktons to provide a natural element to the diet of your corals and fish as well as much of the natural fauna within an aquarium with the least amount of hassle and mess!
This also contains an extremely wide variety of soluble amino acid feeding triggers providing a chemical scent which ensures a very rapid feed response from almost everything very quickly! This ensures that they are ready to consume the food the moment it reaches their polyps rather than gradually setting behind rock work or being removed by filtration before it is consumed. Particles range in buoyancy being mainly neutral thus and stay in suspension longer with the majority even small enough to pass through filter socks and make multiple passes around the system for minimal wastage!
This will also benefit the aquarium and inhabitants by feeding and encouraging the growth and reproduction of natural fauna such as copeopods, amphiopods, mysids, worms, filter feeders and beneficial bacterias, which will help by improving water clarity and quality consuming waste products and in turn increasing the quantity of natural food available in a system.

As a broadcast feed, food particles range in sizes from the finest which are suitable for filter feeing species, clams, tube worms, natural zooplankton and mysids, hard to keep corals such as gonioporas and gorgonians and SPS corals. LPS corals are also targeted by a range of larger particles right up to some large enough for fish to consume! Particles range in buoyancy being mainly neutral thus and stay in suspension longer with some small enough to pass through filter socks and make multiple passes around the system for minimal wastage!

As a target feed the same amount of food is mixed with a much smaller quantity of water in a syringe which is where the biopolymers come into play. Once hydrated this becomes an extremely thick almost gel like paste which can be fed sparingly to individual polyps of LPS corals with the pumps switched temporarily off.
Although This method was developed especially for feeding sun corals, I have had great success feeding it to other ‰ÛÏhungry‰۝ corals such as Acanthastrea for unbelievable growth rates and colour! For even better results this could be mixed in the syringe with a liquid coral food or amino acid blend of your choice instead of water and allowed to soak into the dried food.

For target feeding use 1 level scoop per 2.5ml of water/liquid coral food, allow 5 mins to hydrate and then add to the syringe to feed to corals. For even better results use part of the daily dosage of your chosen liquid coral feed could be used in this mixture as a substitute for water in order to allow some of it to absorb into the more solid particles and carry it directly to the coral polyps. however you should not exceed the individual manufacturers recommended dosages.
