LPS Corals

LPS (Long Polyp Stony) Corals. Generally, these corals consist of a large calcareous skeleton covered in large, fleshy polyps. LPS corals are known for long tentacles and feeding 'sweepers'. Some LPS will require target feeding of planktons or small shrimps to keep their health high. The degree of tentacle extension depends on the level of light and flow the coral is receiving. It is also worth noting, LPS corals can sting other corals that are nearby. LPS are perfect for the more intermediate aquarist.
